Travis started in the excavating work as a teenager and has been doing it ever since. He opened Kidwell Construction in 2001. The business has gone through some changes through the years. We used to have many employees, and we did house construction as well as excavating. Travis has always made sure to keep work in its place and not sacrifice family time and spiritual priorities. And since a health episode in 2018, he has been simplifying the business even more to keep the stress level down. He now has a few part-time helpers. And his wife and kids work with him on many of the jobs.
We have 2 adult daughters and 2 teenage sons. Our kids were homeschooled after elementary school. So they have had many opportunities to be on site and see how it’s done. They have been able to help with any labor that’s appropriate for their age at the time. It has been a wonderful experience spending time with them and seeing them learn the trade. And they always find a way to make it fun, as you will see in some of the pictures.
Kidwell Construction does top quality work. Travis understands the lay of the land - where will be the best placement for a road or building, how to divert water to avoid ruts and potholes. He knows what needs to be done for the job to be done right. He will not do a quick fix that will leave the customer needing more done in the near future. He is meticulous in his work and will never leave a job sloppy. If it's muddy, he will wait until the ground tightens up before the final grading.
